The Bowdoin Gourmet Dishes One Last Time

After a year of experiencing Bowdoin Dining Service for the purposes of presenting it in all its glory to his ravenous readers, as well as for his own nutritional sustenance, Mark McGranaghan '09, aka The Bowdoin Gourmet is ready for the next course.

"I've accomplished my goal of giving the outside world an insider's perspective on Bowdoin's food, and have had a lot of fun in the process," says McGranaghan.

On May 16, 2007, McGranaghan posted what he says is the blog's last entry. He thanked his readers and Bowdoin Dining Service employees, while once again praising the operation.

In addition to descriptions of Bowdoin Dining fare, the Web site also featured the accolades and media mentions Bowdoin Dining would garner, like the Princeton Review's "Best Campus Food in the Country" ranking or the recent Ivy Award by Restaurants & Institutions magazine. In fact, in mentioning Bowdoin Dining, several news outlets have highlighted McGranaghan's efforts. He and his blog have been featured in Restaurants & Institutions magazine, the Times Record and on NECN, the New England Cable News channel. Readers who visited the blog on Fridays were treated to the latest in McGranaghan's Haiku series.

McGranaghan says he plans to keep The Bowdoin Gourmet Web site online for as long as people continue to visit it. With food blogging now behind him, another epicurean pursuit moves up to the front burner. "I'll be living off campus next year, so I have a new culinary adventure to look forward to: trying to cook for myself."
