W. Basketball Win Streak in Friday's Boston Globe
Story posted January 27, 2006
A story on the front page of Friday's (January 27, 2006) Boston Globe sports section spotlights the Bowdoin Women's Basketball team's then-62-game home winning streak, the longest in the nation (the team chalked up home win number 65 January 31st). Members of the team and Coach Stefanie Pemper discuss what it's like playing in the packed 2,100-seat Morrell Gym and keeping the five-year streak alive.
"When we play at home, we're not like, 'Oh my God, we're going to break our home-court winning streak.' It's like, we're not losing no matter what, and we come back," says Justine Pouravelis '06. Pemper notes there is no "secret" to The Streak: ''The strength comes from one another. [The players] are super close. Freshmen are respected the same as juniors. Yeah, I play freshmen. I started freshmen, so with our team we never graduate a ton and that helps chemistry."
