Bowdoin's Fund Raising Efforts Receive National Recognition

Story posted July 22, 2005

Bowdoin College has been honored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for superior fund raising.

Bowdoin was presented with a 2005 CASE/Wealth ID Award in the Overall Fund-Raising Performance category at CASE's annual meeting in Miami Beach July 16, 2005.

The award recognizes institutions that "show solid program growth; breadth in the base of support; and other indications of a mature, well-maintained program."

"The CASE/Wealth ID Award is particularly meaningful to Bowdoin, for it recognizes ongoing excellence in our development program," said William A. Torrey, senior vice president for planning and administration and chief development officer. "It also acknowledges a superb partnership between our staff and Bowdoin alumni, parents and friends, and we are honored to receive this national recognition of that success."

To become eligible for the CASE/Wealth ID Awards, institutions must submit data to the Council for Aid to Education's Voluntary Support of Education survey for three or more consecutive years. This year the field of 970 eligible institutions was narrowed by an independent data analyst to 344 higher education institutions. Out of 274 colleges and universities considered, 46 institutions won awards.

Bowdoin was among eight nationally honored in the Private Liberal Arts Institutions category. Winners were chosen based on "exemplary fund-raising efforts" over the past three years. Among other achievements during that timeframe, Bowdoin saw record totals in the areas of Alumni and Parent Giving.

CASE is the professional organization for advancement professionals who work in alumni relations, communications and development. Membership includes more than 3,000 colleges, universities, and elementary and secondary schools in the United States, Canada, Mexico and 42 other countries. Wealth ID, a fund-raising consulting firm, co-sponsors the Educational Fund Raising Awards.
