Story posted May 12, 2004
Bowdoin College's service learning course work will be in the spotlight Thursday as poster sessions and presentations will be given in Moulton Union during the Service Learning Symposium.
In these service learning courses students met the academic course goals by engaging in community-based work to satisfy particular needs of local and national organizations including Longfellow School, Cliff Island, The Gulf of Maine Research Institute, Bayside Neighborhood Association in Portland, the Town of Bowdoin, Maine Rivers and the Nature Conservancy.
Nine service learning courses were offered this year through the departments of anthropology, biology, environmental studies, geology, economics and sociology. Presentations on five of the projects will be given at the symposium.
The symposium will run from 3-4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13, in Main Lounge. Refreshments will be provided.
