August 17 Proclaimed John Gould Day

Gov. Angus King has proclaimed August 17, 2002, as John Gould Day throughout the state of Maine.

Gould, Bowdoin Class of '31, is widely recognized as the dean of Maine's premier writers, and has been writing about the state and its people for more than 80 years. He is also a distinguished newspaperman and a lifelong scholar of Maine history.

A reception will be held from noon to 2 p.m. that day at Bartlett Woods on Talbot Ave. in Rockland. The public is invited to attend to meet and honor the writer.
