Baxter House Sponsors Bicycle Race: Bikers Can Still Sign Up

Story posted April 03, 2001

“Road War IV,” the criterion bicycle race sponsored by Bowdoin College’s Baxter House, will be held on Sunday, April 22. All proceeds from this fourth annual event will benefit the United Way of Mid Coast Maine.

Bikers can still sign up to participate in this event. The race is open to beginner, intermediate, and advanced bicyclists.

The course will run through the Bowdoin campus, down College, Longfellow, and Coffin streets, and up Park Row. Entrants will bike multiple laps of the course, which is less than one-mile long.

Length of the race will depend on the biker’s level. Beginners will compete in a five-lap race. Intermediate and advanced bikers will compete in a 30-lap race.

Prizes, including movie passes and gift certificates, will be awarded.

Registration for bikers starts at 9:30 a.m. in front of Baxter House, 10 College Street, on the morning of April 22. The race will begin at 10:30 a.m.
