Bowdoin Beefs Up Admissions Department

Story posted December 29, 1999

Bowdoin is expanding its Admissions Department by adding three new positions: a newly created Vice President for Admissions and Student Aid, and two additional admissions officers.

Richard Steele, the current Dean of Admissions, will be promoted to the vice presidentís position in July 2000. The College is conducting a national search for a new dean of admissions.

The two new admissions officers will help Bowdoin concentrate on recruiting a more regionally and racially diverse student body.

Steele said the College is dedicated to recruiting more students of color. It also is planning to concentrate more resources to recruiting from areas of the country, such as the Mid-West and the West Coast, that historically are underrepresented in the student body.
