Booksigning and Photography Exhibit at Bowdoin College
Story posted June 15, 1999
June 21, 1999, BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bowdoin College Bookstore will host a book signing with Connie Baxter Marlow at 3 p.m. July 28 to celebrate the new edition of her 1972 book of photographs "Greatest Mountain: Katahdin's Wilderness." An exhibit of photos published in the book will be on display in conjunction with the signing.
Marlow is the great-grand niece of Percival Baxter, who donated the land to create Baxter State Park, the site of Mount Katahdin. In new contributions to the book, Neil Rolde, Judith and John Hakkola and Park Director Buzz Caverly place Percy Baxter's legacy in historical and contemporary context.
Marlow's family history of public service and philanthropy has significantly shaped her worldview, and in 1991 she founded Friends of Earth People, a foundation dedicated to creating forums for the dissemination of Native American knowledge.
Prior to the Bowdoin exhibit and signing, photographs from the book will be on display at the Highlands.
