Ben Folds Five Performs

April 15, 1999, BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Alternative rock band Ben Folds Five will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, April 16, in Morrell Gym at Bowdoin College, in the band's only southern Maine performance. Doors open at 7 p.m. The concert is $20.00 for the general public and $12 with a Bowdoin student ID. Tickets are on sale at Smith Union at Bowdoin, Bullmoose Records and Strawberries. The trio's music consists of vocals, a piano, a bass and drums. The band, based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, released its debut album, "Ben Folds Five," in 1995. They followed with "Naked Baby Photos" and ""Whatever and Ever Amen" in 1997. "Whatever and Ever Amen" included the hit song "Brick." Their next album, "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner" is due out in April.

The band has had Top 40 hits in the United Kingdom and had a number one platinum album in Japan.
