April 30, 1999, BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The New England Museum Association has awarded the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum a third place award in its 1999 Publications Competition.
The museum shares the third place award with Christopher Kuntze, of Whitfield, New Hampshire, who designed the catalog, "Facing the Future: Mask-Making Traditions of North Alaska." The catalog competed in the category for Illustrated Catalogs $10 and Under.
The catalog was written by Genevieve LeMoine, the museum's curator and produced in conjunction with an exhibit featuring caribou skin masks from North Alaska, on view at the museum through Oct. 17.
Joseph M. Kolko of Portland and Greg Heins of Boston did the object photography, and the catalog was printed at Penmor Lithographers in Lewiston. Lucie Teegarden, director of publications at Bowdoin, and Susan Kaplan, the museum's director, coordinated the project.
