Wesley Named Director of Alumni Relations at Bowdoin

August 7, 1998, BRUNSWICK, Maine - Kevin P. Wesley of Brunswick has been named director of alumni relations at Bowdoin College. A member of the Bowdoin Class of 1989, Wesley joined the Bowdoin staff last August as assistant director of public affairs. He assumed his new post at the College on July 15. The appointment was announced by Scott A. Meiklejohn, Bowdoin's associate vice president for development and alumni relations.
"Kevin has displayed a great deal of creativity and energy as assistant director of public affairs," said Meiklejohn. "I am counting on him to put these and other talents to work as our alumni relations office adds to the breadth and depth of its engagement with Bowdoin alumni."
As director of alumni relations, Wesley is responsible for the organization of programs designed to meet the mutual needs of the College and its alumni body of more than 15,000. He serves as the principal liaison between the College and the Bowdoin Alumni Council and is responsible for the planning, execution, and supervision of such annual events as Homecoming Weekend, Reunion Weekend, and alumni activities at Commencement. He also supervises regular meetings of Bowdoin alumni clubs and works with the director of annual giving to coordinate Alumni Council / volunteer weekends.
A native of Beverly, Mass., Wesley previously served as assistant managing editor of the Boston Business Journal, where he was responsible for the newspaper's small-business section and special projects. Earlier, he served as design editor and business editor of the Beverly (Mass.) Times. He also was the advisor for the Beverly (Mass.) High School newspaper, The Ledger, from 1989 to 1995, during which time it was Outstanding High School Newspaper four times by the American Scholastic Press Association.
Wesley majored in economics and music as a student at Bowdoin and served as editor of the student newspaper, The Bowdoin Orient. He also served as chair of the Student Activities Fee Committee. He was recipient of the 1989 Paul Andrew Walker Prize and the 1986 Bowdoin Orient Prize, given for outstanding contributions to the Orient. A James Bowdoin Scholar in 1986, Wesley was a founding member of the Student Admissions Volunteer Organization; a member of the Student Executive Board, the Bowdoin Chamber Choir, the Masque and Gown theater group, and the Meddiebempsters, a men's a cappella singing group.
