Story posted August 15, 1997

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum and Arctic Studies Center at Bowdoin College is seeking volunteers for its educational programs. Established in 1967, the Museum is an education and research center for the studies of northern exploration, environments and anthropology.

Museum volunteers learn about the Arctic in training sessions, informal discussions and book study groups. As docents, volunteers may give tours to Maine school groups, host receptions at exhibit openings, assist with special projects and meet researchers, explorers and native peoples of the Arctic.

For more information about becoming a Museum volunteer, call (207) 725-3416. The first meeting for volunteers will be on Monday, September 22, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Hubbard Hall, Bowdoin College.
