So, you've got a nice new computer, and aren't sure what to do with the old computer. You're tired of tripping over it, but don't want it to end up in the landfill, either.

There is an incredibly convenient, local, and free solution: Reconnect. Reconnect is a joint partnership that was formed in 2004 between Dell Computer and Goodwill industries. Why Dell and Goodwill? Dell already has a good reputation for responsible recycling programs, and Goodwill has many convenient drop-off locations. Reconnect has expanded into Maine, and is available in 19 locations in southern and central Maine.

Not In Use? Turn off the Juice! Shut Down Your Computer During the Holiday Closure

Before you head out for the holidays, be sure to shut down your computer. Based on an average computer and LCD monitor energy use, you could save roughly 22 lbs of CO2 by shutting off your computer during the 12 days of break. This is a quick and easy way to save energy and money, and the savings can add up if everyone does this. So, before you head out, be sure to turn off your computer, monitor, and any other devices (printers, scanners, etc) that you might have in the office.

Windows Users: Get a Direct Path to Network Files through the H Drive

If you use a Windows computer, you may have noticed that there are two network drives that go to the same place: G and H.  Both drives go to your personal file space, the G drive just takes a longer route.  This can be confusing! You will soon only see the H drive. If you were using the G drive, don't worry! Your files are still there -- you'll just be taking a more direct path to get to them.

Microsoft Office 2007 Available Starting November 2nd

Microsoft Office 2007 will be available to Bowdoin Staff and Faculty starting November 2, 2009. By the 2010-11 academic year, Word 2007, Excel 2007, and Powerpoint 2007 will be standard for all Bowdoin's computer labs and classrooms using Windows.
