Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)

Policy: Through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), the College provides free, confidential counseling services to all benefits-eligible employees and members of their immediate families. These services include problem assessment, brief counseling (up to 4 sessions per issue per calendar year fully paid by the College), and referral for further assistance if necessary. At the point when the counselor provides a referral, payment for all future services is determined by the nature of the referral.

EAP counselors are trained to deal with a wide range of psychological, interpersonal, marital, and familial issues, and are prepared to make appropriate referrals for difficulties related to health, finances, or legal issues. EAP counselors are particularly attuned to helping employees resolve on-the-job conflicts. Also, the service is available to supervisors who have concerns about an employee. (Please note: When a supervisor seeks guidance concerning a supervisory issue, it does not count as one of his/her individual sessions in a twelve month period.) The EAP counselor is prepared to act as a consultant to the supervisor and a resource to the employee who may have a personal problem affecting his or her work. Whatever the specific problem, most individuals who utilize EAP services find significant emotional relief and practical benefit in having a supportive, objective listener to use as a "sounding board." EAP counselors maintain strict confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
