Purpose and Philosophy: All new employees are required to attend New Employee Orientation to introduce them to the campus community and assure that they become familiar with the College’s policies and procedures in a timely fashion.
Bowdoin College New Employee Orientation is held on campus twice each month (or at the beginning of the fall semester for faculty). All employees hired since the previous session are required to attend this important program which covers many aspects of employment at Bowdoin, including general College policies, use of all facilities and services, and occupational health and safety topics. The program is followed by a complimentary lunch and campus tour.
Human Resources staff members conduct separate Employee Benefits Orientations on a regular basis to review details of all of the benefits available to Bowdoin College faculty and staff. Benefits may begin immediately or may have specific waiting periods or legal deadlines for enrollment. Therefore, it is essential for all employees to attend a Benefits Orientation as soon as possible after their date of hire.
You and your supervisor will receive an invitation with available meeting times and dates. Supervisors should insure that new employees are released from work to attend both orientations. Reservations to attend either of these orientations should be made within the first three days after a new employee begins work at Bowdoin College by contacting Human Resources (x3837).
