Posting a Story

Login: http://community.bowdoin.edu/news/wp-login.php 

All posts must include the following:

  • Title: Keep it short and meaningful
  • Body 
  • Excerpt: This brief description (along with the title featured image) is used the news feeds on various areas of the Bowdoin website.
  • Featured image: Every post must contain a featured image.
  • Category

*Stories won't appear in news feeds (such as on the home page) without an excerpt, featured image, and category.

Creating a new Post

  1. Login: http://community.bowdoin.edu/news/wp-login.php
  2. On the left click on Posts/Add New
  3. Type in a title for your story
  4. On the right, choose the category (it's usually your department name)
  5. Type in the content for your story in the Body
  6. Fill in the excerpt field*
  7. Add a feature image.

*Note: If the excerpt field is not showing click on Screen Options in the upper right. Check the box next to excerpt. Click on Screen Options again.

Creating links

Never use "Click here" when creating a link to another page or site. Instead, hyperlink the text that describes what content you're linking to. (example: The Digital  and Social Media web site site has many helpful resources) To create a hyperlink highlight some text and click on the insert/edit link button on the toolbar. Paste in the URL (web address) of the site you want to link to.
