Diana Hess will deliver this year's address titled "The Challenges of Civic Education in a Time of Political Polarization."
An experienced secondary social studies teacher, Dr. Hess currently serves as the senior vice-president at the Spencer Foundation, a foundation dedicated to the belief that research is necessary to improve education and investigating ways in which education can be improved around the world. She is also a professor of social studies in education at the University of Wisconsin--Madison. She is the author of "Controversy in the Classroom: The Democratic Power of Discussion" and the forthcoming "The Political Classroom: Ethics and Evidence in Democratic Education."
