On Saturday, February 23rd, student group Bowdoin Climate Action, a subset of the Green Bowdoin Alliance, will host a panel discussion about divesting institutional endowments from the fossil fuel industry. Special guest speakers also include founder of 350.org Bill McKibben, Sierra Club Maine?s Executive Director Glen Brand, President Mulkey of Unity College, and 350 Maine's divestment coordinator Read Brugger. Panel speakers will demonstrate how divestment works, and that the risk to endowments? returns is minimal. Nationwide, 256 colleges and universities are asking their administration?s to divest from fossil fuels. At Bowdoin students have met twice with President Mills and have invited him to attend the panel, as well as anyone interested in learning more about how Bowdoin can be a leader like Unity College and divest from fossil fuels.
