Re: Minutes from Steering Committee Meeting 04/01/2005
Present: Meg Hart, Ruth Maschino, Leanne Pander (reporting), Sarah Phinney, Peter Wagner
BAS Luncheon: The BAS luncheon on March 24 was a great success. The cost was about $750 for the lunch and $200 on door prizes, leaving about $500 in the BAS treasury.
Budget: We discussed whether BAS should put together a zero-based budget. In past years, $3,000 was allocated to BAS, but last year this figure was cut to $1,500. Peter will speak with Scott about the budget process.
BAS Activities: We talked about possible social activities for the remainder of the year, and thought that an ice cream social would be fun, simple, and reasonably priced. Tuesday, June 21 was suggested, as this falls in between some other summer activities on campus and would not be a difficult time for Dining Services to accommodate us.
BAS Nominations/Elections: The ballot for nominations is set to close Monday at 5:00 p.m. Once we find out how many people were nominated, we will take the top vote-getters and create a new ballot to send to the BAS membership. All who were nominated will be notified and asked if they'll be willing to serve on the Steering Committee. During the week of April 11 we will look at the nominees for Committee slots, and Ruth will contact them to gauge their interest. Sarah has put together a new time line for the election process.
Communication: There is a box for anonymous comments on the BAS web page, but when we receive these comments there is no way to follow up with the person who sent them. We are considering more specific language on the web page asking people to include their name and email address if they would like us to act on their comment/concerns and get back to them with an answer. Peter proposed the idea of sending out occasional "Did you know?" messages to administrative staff members, listing interesting and fun facts about the College. Please submit your ideas to Peter for this future communication vehicle!
