Experience Bowdoin academics firsthand! Visit an introductory course in a discipline that you have never studied, witness student-faculty discussion in a small interdisciplinary seminar, or observe how our state-of-the-art science center enhances instruction. There are dozens of classes from which to choose in disciplines ranging from Environmental Studies to Africana Studies to Classics.
To arrange to visit a class at Bowdoin:
- Consult the list of current course offerings
- Find a class that interests you
- Note the day and time the course is offered
- Contact the faculty member via email to request a visit
Faculty emails are available through Bowdoin's online directory.
Please plan to arrive at a class five minutes before it is scheduled to begin to introduce yourself to the instructor. Our faculty ask that you plan to stay for the entire class.
- Overnight visits are subject to limited student volunteer host availability on Sunday through Thursday nights from the last week in September through the first week in March.
- We do not offer overnight visits on Friday or Saturday nights nor during college break periods.
- Overnights are for high school seniors and are for one night only.
- We require a minimum two-week notice.
- To schedule an overnight visit, please email Denise Bernier with a preferred date and completed copies of the information form (pdf) and medical permission form (pdf). If emailing copies of the release forms is not possible, they may be faxed to: (207) 725-3101.
A personal interview is strongly encouraged, but not required. On-campus interviews are available to seniors (applying for the Fall of 2016). Interviews are designed as a give-and-take: the interviewer will guide the course of the conversation, but there'll be plenty of time for you to ask questions about Bowdoin not addressed in other materials.
As a reminder, an interview is not required as part of the application process to Bowdoin.
To cancel an interview, please call the Bowdoin Admissions Office at (207) 725-3231. To reschedule an interview, please use the online scheduler.
Who will interview me on campus?
An admissions staff member or a Bowdoin senior, one carefully selected and trained for this purpose.
Off-Campus Interviews and High School Visits
Bowdoin offers off-campus alumni interviews to interested high school seniors (applying for the Fall of 2016) from September through early December each fall. If a visit to Bowdoin isn't possible, an alumni interview in your area is an excellent option. If you have already had an on-campus interview, unfortunately, we cannot accommodate an off-campus interview. To sign up for an alumni off-campus interview, please submit our request form. Due to the volume of requests, it can take some time to hear back from us. If you have questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Bowdoin admissions officers also visit high schools all over the country and world each year. We sometimes offer off-campus interviews during our fall travel, but most of our staff time is scheduled for high school visits, college fairs, and regional Bowdoin Events. (If you are on our mailing list, look for an email from us detailing our fall travel to your area.)
If you wish to attend a tour and an information session, you need only register for either the tour OR the information session, not both.
Those students scheduling on-campus interviews need only register for the interview.
Information for Group Visits:
We welcome high school students and educators for group tours of campus. Due to the high volume of tour requests we receive, we may not be able to accommodate all groups. Please note we require advance notice of three weeks for group visits. Group Tour Request Form
For more information, or to cancel your scheduled visit, please call us at (207) 725-3231. We request at least 24 hours notice to cancel a group visit. Information for Bus Parking
