A personal interview is strongly encouraged and is available to any student who plans to apply for admission (the following Fall) as either a first-year or transfer student. Interviews are designed as a give-and-take: the interviewer will guide the course of the conversation, but there'll be plenty of time for you to ask questions about Bowdoin not addressed in other materials.

On-campus interviews are available throughout the year from the third week of May until November 30. Bowdoin is no longer offering on-campus interviews for students seeking Fall 2013 admission.

Schedule an Interview

To reschedule or cancel an interview, please call the Bowdoin Admissions Office at (207) 725-3100.

Who will interview me on campus?
An admissions staff member or a Bowdoin senior, one carefully selected and trained for this purpose.

Off-Campus Interviews and High School Visits
Bowdoin offers off-campus alumni interviews to interested high school seniors from September through early December each fall. If a visit to Bowdoin isn't possible, an alumni interview in your area is an excellent option. If you have already had an on-campus interview, unfortunately, we cannot accomodate an off-campus interview.

Bowdoin admissions officers also visit hundreds of high schools all over the country and world each year. We sometimes offer off-campus interviews during fall travel, but most of our staff time is given to local college fairs and to general information sessions at high schools.

Class Visits
Experience Bowdoin academics firsthand! Visit an introductory course in a discipline that you have never studied, witness student-faculty discussion in a small interdisciplinary seminar, or observe how our state-of-the-art science center enhances instruction. There are dozens of classes from which to choose in disciplines ranging from Environmental Studies to Africana Studies to Classics.

Bowdoin does not offer summer courses.

To arrange to visit a class at Bowdoin, please visit the Bearings website:

  • Choose "Schedule of Courses"
  • Find a class that interests you
  • Contact the faculty member via email to request a visit

Faculty emails are available through Bowdoin's online directory.

Please plan to arrive at a class five minutes before it is scheduled to begin to introduce yourself to the instructor. Our faculty ask that you plan to stay for the entire class.

Overnight Visits

  • Overnight visits are subject to limited student volunteer host availability on Sunday through Thursday nights during the academic year.
  • We do not offer overnight visits on Friday or Saturday.
  • Overnights are for high school seniors and are for one night only.
  • We require a minimum two-week notice.
  • Overnight visitors are required to complete and return an information form (pdf) and a medical permission form (pdf).
  • To schedule an overnight visit, please call or email Denise Bernier, 207-725-3119.

Scheduling note:

If you wish to attend a tour and an information session, you need only register for either the tour OR the information session, not both.

Those students scheduling on-campus interviews need only register for the interview.
