Katy Stern
Katy Stern holds a bachelor’s degree from Bennington College and a master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Before coming to Bowdoin, she had more than ten years of experience as a teacher and trainer. In 2000, she was hired by the Boston Public Schools to develop a safe schools program for LGBTQ students.
She later worked as a trainer with the Center for the Prevention of Hate Violence, a Portland, Maine–based organization that trained students across the country to stand up and speak out against bias, prejudice, and violence. She also taught as an adjunct instructor at York County Community College and Southern Maine Community College.
Prior to her current role, Kary spent fifteen years creating and leading the Sexuality, Women, and Gender Center, as well as what is now the Identity and Culture team within Student Affairs.
Katy lives with her partner (Bowdoin alum '92), their three children, and puggle Roxy.
