Stories of Support

Artists Fund Provides Financial Resources for Studio Art Students

The Jean Kaempfer Artists Fund was recently established by Joseph W. Kaempfer and his daughter, Annie Kaempfer of the Class of 2004, in memory of Annie’s late mother, Jean, a teacher and photographer.

The purpose of the Fund is to support students in Bowdoin’s studio art program. This fund will provide students who genuinely lack financial resources with the opportunity to purchase art supplies, participate in summer internships, and pursue their interests in studio art, which they could not otherwise do.

Annie graduated from Bowdoin with a degree in visual arts. She now lives in Washington, DC, and is the executive director of the Environmental Film Festival, and she has also worked as an artist’s assistant to noted sculptor, John Dreyfuss.

Mr. Kaempfer is chairman of London-based McArthurGlen and is the founder of real estate development firm The Kaempfer Company in Washington, DC. He has served on a number of boards and charitable organizations and is a trustee of the American School in London and deputy chairman of the board of The Prince’s Regeneration Trust. He has also been a guest lecturer at Harvard Graduate School of Design, Yale School of Management and Princeton University. He earned his MBA degree from Harvard University and lives in London and Washington, DC.
