A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable account sponsored by a public charity that donors use to support their philanthropy. DAF donors make irrevocable, tax deductible contributions of cash, securities or other assets to the public charity sponsoring the DAF in the donor(s)’ name. DAF assets are invested for growth to provide philanthropic support over time. Donors recommend grants from their DAFs to qualified 501 (c) (3) public charities, like Bowdoin.
If you have an account with Fidelity Charitable, Greater Kansas City CF, Schwab Charitable or BNY Mellon, you can easily recommend a grant using the DAF Direct form on this page. The list of non-profit organizations using DAF Direct is growing. If you have an account with an organization not currently listed, they can join the DAF Direct consortium by contacting DAFDirect@fmr.org.
If you have questions about how your gift may be designated, please contact the Office of Development at 207-725-3094.
