Thanks to contributions of alumni, parents, and friends, the College has raised $37,544,984 toward the $43.1 million Bowdoin Campaign annual giving goal.
Meeting this goal will be made possible through the generosity of donors to the Alumni Fund, the Parents Fund, the Polar Bear Athletic Fund, and the Friends of the College Fund. Reunion giving is the cornerstone of annual giving, typically comprising 31 to 38 percent of each year’s totals. Alumni have demonstrated an extraordinary level of support of the vision and direction of the College through their generous gifts.
"These gifts are testament to the loyalty of our alumni and the strength of our college," says Eric Foushee '90, executive director of alumni relations and annual giving. "The significant progress toward our goal reflects the genuine commitment of our staff and alumni volunteers who have helped in our success even during these challenging economic times."
Contributions to the Parents Fund comprise $5.5 million of the amount raised thus far in the campaign. The Parents Fund goal for this year is $1.55 million.
"That parents, both of current students and graduates, choose to generously support the College is indeed heartening," says Pamela Phillips, director of parent giving. "The impact of their support is significant, and enriches campus life immeasurably. I am grateful to the many parent donors who have participated in the Parents Fund during The Bowdoin Campaign, and to the members of the Parents Executive Committee who devote their time and resources to this effort."
The College is nearing the completion of The Bowdoin Campaign, a five-year effort to raise $250 million to ensure access for students with financial needs, support the academic program, enhance student life, develop facilities, and increase the College's ability to respond to change. By making annual gifts, donors become active participants in The Bowdoin Campaign, which ends in June 2009.
Annual gifts generate vital support for the College's academic program, financial aid, and student life, providing an important margin of excellence beyond what is possible from tuition and endowment income alone.
