Delta Sigma Art Competition Draws Student Talent

Story posted April 06, 2012

Former fraternity Delta Sigma/Delta Upsilon awarded $1,000 in prizes to five student artists at a recent reception for its 13th annual art competition. More than 40 students submitted artwork to this year's show in the Lamarche Gallery in Smith Union.

Peter Simmons '78, executive director of the Bowdoin International Music Festival, presented the awards to the winners, who were chosen by a panel of three alumni artists: Charlotte Agell '81, Monica Kelly '78 and Cassie Jones '01. Students Anna Ackerman '12, Margaret Bunke '14, Rebecca Rosen '13, Kathryn Woo '12 and Ruiqi Tang '13 all won gifts of $200 each.

Simmons said this year's selection was particularly impressive. "The jurors looked around and said, 'This is terrific,'" Simmons told the gathered students. "The strength of this show is among the best we've seen."
