Bowdoin College's 207th Convocation

Bowdoin College's annual Convocation ceremony, marking the official opening of the 207th academic year, was held September 3, 2008, in Memorial Hall, Pickard Theater.
Following remarks by President Barry Mills, Daniel J. O'Leary, the John S. Osterweis Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, gave the Convocation address.
O'Leary's talk was titled "Transformative Chemistry."
Dean of Student Affairs Tim Foster presented "Voices from Bowdoin's Past," readings taken from documents recounting the College's history.

Music for the processional and recessional was provided by Robert James Hao Zhang-Smitheram '11, who performed Jean Joseph Mouret's Rodeau in C Major, Henry Heron's Trumpet Voluntary, and Louis Couperin's Chacone in G Minor and Sarabande in C Major.
Elizabeth Hayes Eypper '10 performed the musical interlude, "Modéré" from Sonatine by Maurice Ravel.
