Bowdoin's Food Ranked #1 in the Country

Best 361

Story posted August 22, 2005

Bowdoin College has the best campus food in the country, according to the latest rankings by the Princeton Review.

Once again ranked overall as one of the nation's best institutions for undergraduate education, Bowdoin is featured in The Best 361 Colleges, the new 2006 edition of the Princeton Review's "best colleges" guide, published August 23, 2005.

In the book's Bowdoin profile, the College is described as well run, with great lab and computer facilities, library, food, and dorms.

Regularly acknowledged nationally for boasting some of the country's premier college food, Bowdoin this year reclaimed the #1 spot on the Princeton Review's list of "Best Campus Food."

Readers of Parade Magazine were given a sneak peek at the rankings in the Sunday, August 21 issue, where Bowdoin was highlighted for its best food ranking.

Bowdoin also appears on the Princeton Review's rankings for "Dorms Like Palaces" (#16) and "School Runs Like Butter" (the administration gets high marks at #19).

The rankings are based on student ratings of their schools and reports of their experiences there. Only about 15% of the four-year colleges in America and two Canadian universities make it into the book.

The guide's profiles include comments from surveyed students. Bowdoin students say:

Bowdoin is "an incredibly friendly, supportive, and challenging learning environment."

It's a "beautiful place where students work hard at the things they love, not because they are competing with someone but because they want to do well."

Throughout the school professors are "first-class teachers who are here because they want to teach."

Administrators "do a great job of letting us know that the reason they're there is for us.... Every single one, from secretaries to the president of the college, is receptive and very visible on campus."

The Princeton Review, a New York-based company known for its education, admission and test-prep-services, will posts the book's ranking lists on its Web site beginning August 23.
