Story posted August 09, 2005
Shelley Deane , Visiting Assistant Professor of Government and Legal Studies, was a guest on the Chicago Public Radio program Odyssey Tuesday.
Odyssey, hosted by Gretchen Helfrich, brings together thinkers from the fields of art, science, politics and the law to discuss a range of ideas and issues. Helfrich and two guests address a particular topic, then take telephone calls from listeners.
Tuesday's topic was the Northern Ireland ceasefire, and the discussion addressed why such political groups as the IRA cease using violence to achieve political ends. Deane provided insight into how this might impact negotiations in other ongoing violent conflicts such as al-Qaeda.
The show aired Tuesday, August 9, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. eastern time. To listen, click here or visit http://www.chicagopublicradio.org.
