Class of 2007 Profile Released

Bowdoin College has released a preliminary profile of the applicants, admits, and matriculants for its Class of 2007 (numbers may change over the course of the summer).

Applications and Admissions

Of the record 4,719 students who applied, 1,122 were offered admission. This 23.8% admission rate compares with a 23.9% admission rate for the Class of 2006 (which admitted 1,114 of the 4,505 applicants).

Men accounted for 495 of the admitted students (2,248 applied), and women accounted for 627 (2,471 applied).

Of those offered admission, 345 are students of color (up from 307 a year ago): 161 Asian, 98 Latino/a, 77 African Americans, and nine Native Americans.

Admission was offered to students from 48 U.S. states plus the District of Columbia.

Massachusetts accounted for the most admitted students, with 246, followed by New York (119) and Maine (99). California provided the fourth highest number with 83 students offered admission.

Sixty-five admitted students are from Connecticut, 40 from New Jersey, 31 from Maryland, 30 from Washington, 28 from Pennsylvania, 22 from New Hampshire, and 21 from Illinois.

Sixty-three international students representing 30 countries were offered admission. The countries with the most admitted students are Canada with 14, and France and Korea with five each.

Matriculants

As of May 8, the Class of 2007 comes in at 467 students who intend to matriculate, though all numbers listed may change throughout the summer as the make up of the class is finalized.

Of the 467, 228 are men, and 239 are women.

Students of color represent 117 of those intending to matriculate (56 Asian, 32 Latino/a, 27 African American, and two Native American).

Thirty-five U.S. states plus the District of Columbia are represented, with 122 students from Massachusetts, 56 from Maine, 50 from New York, 31 from Connecticut, and 23 from California.

Eighteen countries are represented among the 28 international students intending to matriculate, with 10 students coming from Canada.
