Story posted March 07, 2002
Bowdoin College has several sports teams in the hunt for national championships.
By beating Middlebury Tuesday, the women's ice hockey team became the first Polar Bear squad in any sport to advance to the Final Four in a national championship tournament. It was the first ever NCAA game played at Dayton Arena. Next up is a trip to Elmira, N.Y., for a semi-final contest against Manhattanville on Friday, March 8. Game time is 4 p.m. The winner will play either Elmira or Gustavus Adolphus for the NCAA title.
The women's basketball team will play host team Springfield in the NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m. The winner of that game will face the St. Lawrence/Ohio Wesleyan winner at 5 p.m. on Saturday in Springfield.
The men's ice hockey team will travel to play Norwich in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The quarterfinals are a two-game series with the first team to three points advancing. If the series is tied after Saturday's game, there will be a mini-game following the contest that will decide the winner.
