Bowdoin’s new Debate Team traveled to Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, a few weeks ago to participate in their first ever debate tournament. Bowdoin joined such other prestigious schools as Yale, Harvard, MIT, Brandeis, NYU and Smith—all of whom have long histories of tournament competition.
Bowdoin entered two teams, and despite their inexperience, both had respectable showings. Team “A” won two out of four cases, and Team “B” won two out of five cases. Most importantly, the teams learned from their experience, and improved tremendously.
The Bowdoin Debate Team is looking to attend more tournaments this spring. Mount Holyoke, Princeton, and City College are all tournament options.
The Debate Team is small and seeking more members. No experience is necessary. Anyone either wishing to join the Debate Team or to simply find out more about the Debate Team’s activities are welcome to attend the group’s weekly meetings. Meetings are held each Tuesday evening, 8:30-10 p.m., in Searles Science Building, Room 127.
