Latest Bowdoin Blood Drive Results
Story posted November 29, 2000
The second Bowdoin Blood Drive of the year was held Monday, November 20. The drive coincided with Thanksgiving week, traditionally one of the largest blood usage times of the year.
Curtis Jirsa '01, one of three Blood Drive Coordinators, reports that 94 pints of blood were collected, from 119 presenting donors. Ten people were first-time donors.
The drive experienced a 15% deferral rate. Donors are deferred most often because of low iron content in their blood, or because of travel outside of the country.
At the last blood drive in September, Bowdoin set a new record by attracting more donors than ever before: over 170. November is traditionally a slower drive.
Mark your calendar: the next Bowdoin Blood Drive is scheduled for February 14. With your help, Bowdoin can continue to play a crucial role in restocking Maine hospitals with the blood units necessary for daily operation.
In addition to Jirsa, the Bowdoin Blood Drive's coordinators were Rachel Gruszka '02 and Meredith Hoar '03.
