Helmreich HouseSeeks Gifts for Local Shelter

Story posted December 08, 1999

A "giving tree" has been placed in the first floor of Helmreich House, 238 Maine Street, to give members of the Bowdoin community the opportunity to give to others in the Brunswick area.

Ornaments on the tree have gift items written on them; the gifts will be given to the Tetford Shelter.

Those wishing to provide a gift may choose an ornament from the tree, purchase the gift, and bring the wrapped gift to Helmreich House by December 18. Wrapping materials are available at Helmreich if needed. Gifts requested include items such as gloves, hats and movie passes.

This is the first year the house has sponsored the giving tree. Organizer Alison Lavoie had participated in similar projects at her high school in Nashua, New Hampshire.

"The purpose of the giving tree is to get the Bowdoin community excited and involved with the holidays," she said. "It's an easy way to show you care, and the Tetford Shelter is extremely appreciative of any contributions."
