Story posted March 15, 1998

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Psychologist and author Dr. Margo Maine will discuss "Body Wars On Campus" in a public lecture at Bowdoin College on Wednesday, April 8, at 8:30 p.m. in Beam Classroom, Visual Arts Center. The lecture is open to the public free of charge.

Maine, a clinical psychologist, is director of the Eating Disorder Program at the Institute of Living in Hartford. She also teaches at the University of Connecticut and the University of Hartford.

She is the author of the soon-to-be-published "Body Wars" and "Father Hungry: Daughters, and Food." She serves as senior editor of "Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention" and serves on the board of directors for Eating Disorders Awareness and Prevention.

Maine's visit is one of a number of programs at Bowdoin this year that address eating disorders. In February, an Eating Disorders Awareness Week featured speakers, programs and awareness events. The student group Warriors has also engaged in a year-long publicity effort to bring the issue to students through posters and flyers. Maine's lecture comes during a two-day visit to campus. While at Bowdoin, she will also hold workshops for the Student Affairs, Residential Life, Athletic Department, Counseling Service and Health Center staffs. Each workshop will focus on specific areas of eating disorders, including identification and treatment. She will also hold an open discussion with students.
