Second Friday ArtWalk Brunswick featuring the exhibition "Katherine Bradford: ~~~AUGUST~~~"
- 8/9/2013 | 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Location: Bowdoin College Museum of Art
- Event Type: Miscellaneous
The Museum of Art will be open until 8:00 p.m. as part of Brunswick's Second Friday ArtWalk. The exhibition Katherine Bradford: ~~~AUGUST~~~ will be featured.
Bradford is a New York-based painter and a long-time member of the Maine arts community. The exhibition includes eight of Bradford's recent paintings, which are all concerned with the ocean, populated by boats and bathers, as a metaphor for the vagaries of modern life. Bradford's ocean paintings can simultaneously be read as hilarious and catastrophic, decorative and sublime. Like many maritime-inspired artists before her, Bradford enjoys capturing waves with vigorous brushstrokes, but she does not aim at rendering nature realistically. Instead, she subversively imitates abstract art, reinterpreting it in her own figurative idiom.
A reception for the artist and exhibition will take place from 6:00 to 7:00 on Friday evening, August 9, 2013. Immediately following, Katherine Bradford will present a gallery talk at 7:00 p.m. Free and open to the public.
