Website Accessibility Policy

Bowdoin College is committed to ensuring that our websites are available to the widest possible audience and accessible to all.

This includes but is not limited to people with auditory, cognitive, learning, neurological, physical, speech, and visual disabilities, as well as people with situational or temporary limitations.

This policy establishes standards and expectations across all web content on Bowdoin websites, including webpages, images, videos, audio files, and documents.

Policy

The World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are a set of accessibility standards for content creators, designers, and developers to meet as they create text, use images, videos, and audio files, and implement page structure and mark-up for websites and web applications.

All College websites shall adhere to AA-level standards of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1

Responsibilities

All members of the Bowdoin community creating and publishing content online, including content creators and their departments and offices, are responsible for upholding this policy.

The Office of Communications and Public Affairs and Information Technology can provide support and remediation by request, given appropriate lead time.

When requested by an enrolled student, the Office of Student Accessibility is responsible for implementing individual accommodation(s) so that all students can access web content. The office will work with the Office of Communications and Public Affairs and Information Technology as needed to remediate issues and provide alternative formats.
