Globe Newspaper President to Speak at Jan. 12 Business Breakfast

Dec. 10, 1998, BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The fourth of the 1998-99 Bowdoin Business Breakfasts will feature William B. Huff '72, President and Chief Financial Officer of the Globe Newspaper Company. The title of his talk will be "The Future of Newspapers."

Breakfast is served at 7:30 a.m. in Daggett Lounge, and Huff's talk will begin at 8 a.m. The cost for breakfast is $4.25 for faculty and staff, $8.50 for the public.

Huff, a 21-year veteran of the company, was named president of The Boston Globe in January 1998. Huff joined the Globe's then-parent company, Affiliated Publications Inc., in 1976 as an internal auditor and served as controller from 1982-1989. He was named vice president in 1986; chief financial officer, a position he continues to fill, in 1989; senior vice president in 1990, and executive vice president in 1994. Prior to joining Affiliated Publications, he worked for the accounting firm Arthur Andersen & Co. in Boston.

After earning his undergraduate degree at Bowdoin in 1972 with a major in economics, Huff studied at the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College graduating with an MBA in 1974. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Massachusetts Society of CPAs, the Financial Executives Institute and the Treasurers Club of Boston. Huff is a director for the United Ways of New England, Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries, Wayland Public Schools Foundation and Wayland Area Youth Soccer.

As in the past, seating in Daggett Lounge is limited to 160, first-come, first-seated. Overflow seating will be available where the speaker may be viewed on screen. Payment to "Bowdoin College" is required to hold your reservation. Remittance should be sent to Lynn Ensign, Donor Relations Office, 85 Federal St., no later than Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999.

Parking near Coles Tower is limited. We ask you especially not to park in the Admissions Office spaces reserved for interviewing guests.

The next Bowdoin Business Breakfast will be held on Feb. 9, 1999.
