Where is the Summer Programs Information Desk located?
The Summer Programs Information Desk is located on the first floor of Coles Tower. This building is fairly easy to locate - it's the tallest building on campus, standing at 16 stories high. It sits between College Street and South Street.
The Summer Programs Information Desk will be staffed between 7am and 9pm, seven days a week throughout the Summer Programs season. Please visit the Information Desk for immediate assistance with any questions or concerns you may have during your stay on campus. You can also reach the Information Desk by telephone by calling 207-725-3622; if you are calling from an on-campus phone, dial 3622.
Are the dorms air-conditioned?
Our residential spaces are not air conditioned. However, a limited number of fans are available for a deposit fee of $5 at the Summer Programs Information Desk. If possible, you may want to consider bringing your own fan to campus with you.
Will I be provided with bed linens?
Unless noted otherwise by your program's administrator, all residents will find their beds made up with two sheets, one blanket, one pillow and one pillowcase upon arrival. Two towels and a washcloth will also be provided for each residential participant.
Is there a daily maid service for my overnight accommodations?
There is no daily maid service for private residential rooms, but common areas and restrooms will be cleaned daily. The Summer Programs Information Desk will have extra sets of sheets and towels throughout the summer, and will gladly distribute these sets to participants who would like to change their linens.
Will I have access to computers with internet on campus?
Public computers with internet access are available at various locations around campus: Hawthorne-Longfellow Library (open M-F, 8:30am - 5pm), Hatch Library (open M-F, 8:30am - 5pm), David Saul Smith Union (open M-F, 7am - 5pm) and Moulton Union (open M-F, 7am - 5pm). Summer program participants are welcome to use these computers when the buildings are open.
If I bring my own laptop with me, can I connect to the internet?
Program participants with laptops can connect to the "Bowdoin Guest" wireless internet. Alternately, participants can connect to the internet by using an Ethernet cable; Ethernet cables are available for a $5 deposit fee at the Summer Programs Information Desk, or you can bring your own cable to campus with you. All residential rooms on campus are outfitted with an Ethernet port.
Is there an ATM machine on campus?
There are two ATM machines on campus: a Midcoast Federal Credit Union affiliated machine is located in the lobby of Coles Tower, just outside of the Summer Programs Information Desk, and a Bank of America affiliated machine is located in Smith Union, next to the Express Convenience Store.
Will I be able to do laundry while I'm on campus?
ID card-operated washers and dryers ($1.70 each per load) are located in the basement of Coles Tower and several other residence halls. All machines are card-operated, so you will need to deposit money onto your Participant ID card at the Summer Programs Information Desk in the Coles Tower lobby. Please stop by the Information Desk for further information on card-operated machines.
Laundry detergent is available for purchase at the Summer Programs Information Desk. The desk staff will also be happy to direct guests to area laundromats and dry cleaners.
Is there mail service on campus?
The College Station Mail Center in Smith Union is available for most mailing, shipping, faxing and overnight delivery needs. The window is open from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Please check with the staff at the Mail Center for acceptence times for various services. The phone number for the Mail Center is 207-725-3302.
Incoming mail should be addressed to you in care of your program, Summer Programs, Coles Tower - Bowdoin College, 3200 College Station, Brunswick, Maine 04011-8423. We regret to inform you that we cannot be responsible for forwarding mail that arrives after your departure.
Am I allowed to smoke in my room?
Smoking is not permitted in any campus housing or meeting spaces, dining areas or areas of public gathering. Furthermore, smoking is not permitted within 50 feet of any building entrance or open window.
