The Office of the Registrar produces official transcripts, which bear the College's seal and the Registrar's signature, are printed on special paper, and include a Transcript Guide to explain elements of the transcript.
Requesting a Transcript: The student or alumna/alumnus completes a Transcript Request Form and provides a written signature. This form may be hand delivered, mailed, or scanned and emailed. You may also fax in the request but we strongly recommend that you follow-up with a call or email to confirm the receipt of your request. When necessary, requests may also be made in the body of an email message, with the person's scanned signature included as an attachment.
Requests for off-campus study transcripts must be directed to the originating institutions. [Exceptions: ISLE and SITA programs; the Registrar's Office will make copies upon request.]
Transcript Processing Time: Transcript requests are processed in the order in which they are received and may take up to five business days to process. During busy times of the year (course registration, first-year orientation, first week of classes, etc.), process time may be extended. Requests are processed Monday through Thursday.
Due to the large volume of transcript requests, requesters should first confirm receipt of the transcript with the person to whom the transcript was mailed.
Sending Transcripts: All transcripts are sent to the specified addressee and address through regular mail unless express mailing is requested. Overnight FedEx shipping is available at a cost of $20 per address. This fee may be paid by cash, check, or money order; make checks payable to "Bowdoin College." Note that a request for overnight shipping does not speed up the normal processing time.
Transcripts may be given or sent directly to the student or alumna/alumnus. These transcripts are stamped, "ISSUED TO STUDENT IN SEALED ENVELOPE."
Transcripts cannot be sent electronically, nor will transcripts be emailed.
Current students are welcome to view their unofficial transcripts online through Polaris. After logging on simply click on the Degree Progress link under the Academic Profile block and select whether you would like to see your unofficial academic history as an entirety or by a specific term. Click print to obtain a hard copy of your unofficial transcript or change the print options and select Save as PDF to download an electronic copy of your unofficial transcript. Please note, at this time only our current students are able to use this service. Alumni will need to follow the instructions above for requesting an official transcript.
