Community Conversations—February 4, 2021

By now you’ve heard a few times from Senior Vice President Michael Reed about the DiversityEdu courses that all Bowdoin students, faculty, and staff are taking. I hope that you have already had the opportunity to take your course and feel you have learned something from the content. If you are scheduled to take it over the next week in person then I hope you are looking forward to it, and if you are doing it online and haven’t yet started, I encourage you to begin as soon as possible. The campus-wide deadline for completing the courses is Monday, February 8.

Some colleagues who have already completed their course have expressed an interest in having an opportunity to talk more about the material covered. Human Resources is partnering with the Office of Inclusion and Diversity to offer three “community conversations” about the DiversityEdu course content. These hour-long sessions, which will be held on February 10, 16, and 25, will be facilitated by staff and faculty from across the campus and are open to all employees. The goal of these sessions is to deepen our collective understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, while also encouraging us to process the information in the course through discussion. Please note, these conversations are completely voluntary!

If you would like to sign up for one of the three “community conversations,” please click this link. Alternatively, if you think that your office or department would benefit from a team-specific session, please contact the Office of Inclusion and Diversity to set up a time to do that.

Thank you,
