Barbara Hendrie '80 to be Honored by Queen Elizabeth II

Dr. Barbara Hendrie '80 is to receive the Order of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth II at an upcoming investiture ceremony.
The honor was formally announced in the British New Year 2010 Honours List, which appeared in the December 31, 2009, edition of the London Gazette and in other national newspapers.
Hendrie, a social anthropologist, holds dual American-British citizenship, allowing eligibility for the national award of merit.
Hendrie did her graduate work at University College in London after serving as a volunteer in the famine camps during the first Ethiopian famine. She also received one of the College's first Common Good Awards.
Hendrie, a senior civil service officer of the British government, recently returned from a nine-month assignment in Baghdad and is currently in New York City, where is she is counselor for International Development and Human Rights to the British Mission to the United Nations.
