Holt Named Chicago Divinity Alumnus of the Year

Religion Professor John Holt recently was named Alumnus of the Year for 2007 at the University of Chicago Divinity School.

Bowdoin’s William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Humanities in Religion and Asian Studies was recognized for his rich scholarly contributions to the fields of Hindu and Buddhist studies, as well as his innovations in theoretical approaches to the study of religion. He will deliver his Alumnus of the Year address in November 2007. (Find out more.)

Holt currently is doing research in Laos while on sabbatical leave from Bowdoin. He is working on two new books projects – a scholarly reader on Sri Lanka and a new work on Buddhism in Laos.

He will resume his teaching duties at Bowdoin in Fall 2007.
