Despite what many of the headlines are saying, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is a rational actor who has behaved in a systematic and strategic way to protect and develop his nation. That was the view of Bowdoin faculty members Rebecca Gibbons and Bradley Babson speaking on Maine Public Radio on February 7, 2018.

As the Winter Olympics prepare to get underway in South Korea, the two were invited to appear on the daily call-in show Maine Calling to discuss the situation on the Korean peninsula.

Professor Gibbons is an international security expert with a particular focus on nuclear issues. Babson, whose title is Distinguished Lecturer, is also an Asia consultant and former World Bank economist with extensive first-hand experience of the region. They spoke with program host Jennifer Rooks.
