Don Blanchon ’86 took over as executive director of the Washington DC-based Whitman-Walker Clinic in 2006. The organization is known for its work serving the LGBTQ community and people living with HIV or AIDS.

Blanchon didn’t quite fit the mold of the clinic’s previous directors — he is straight and married. Nonetheless, “eleven years later, under his leadership…the Whitman-Walker Health is thriving,” reports Metro Weekly in a profile on Blanchon. “Guided by Blanchon’s emphasis on long-term sustainability, the community health center no longer finds itself in the type of repetitive boom-and-bust cycles that, in past years, often left it careening from one financial crisis to another.”
