Morneau Celebrates 30 Years as Bowdoin College Concert Band Director

John P. Morneau, now in his thirtieth year as director of the Bowdoin College Concert Band, will conduct a musical tribute to the natural wonder of mountains Sunday, October 29, 2017, at 2 p.m. in Kanbar Auditorium, Studzinski Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

We’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain is to be a musical tribute to the grandeur of mountains, featuring music derived from the various cultures of mountainous regions.

The Concert Band is an ensemble of Bowdoin students and various musicians from the local community, comprising approximately forty-five instrumentalists.

The program will feature the premiere performance of “Three Mountain Songs: A Jazz Medley,” arranged by T. Douglas Stenberg ’56. The medley’s three selections are in different jazz genres: Mountain Greenery—Rodgers and Hart (1926); Go Tell It OnThe Mountain—(Spiritual, 1865); and She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain(Traditional Children’s Song).

Morneau is an accomplished woodwind performer who has played with various musical groups throughout his career. He also serves as director of bands at the Great Salt Bay Community School in Damariscotta and as director of the University of Southern Maine Youth Band Day Camp.
