Students Teaching Students Makes For Learning Experience All Around

Students Teaching Students Makes For Learning Experience All Around from Bowdoin College on Vimeo.

Bowdoin students headed toward careers in teaching enjoy a professional development partnership with King Middle School in Portland, a nationally recognized expeditionary learning school with a diverse school community, in which they are placed with veteran King teachers for their field placement.

In addition to being in the King Middle School community, Bowdoin students study expeditionary learning core principles and practices, tour Portland neighborhoods from which King students draw, and participate in dinner gatherings of school and community families and leaders.

The Bowdoin students have also conducted a research project during their time at King, looking at topics requested by King administrators as a way to contribute to the continued growth of their school community.

The partnership is an opportunity for students to delve deeply into a school community and explore the many social, economic, and cultural components of educating a student.
