The Bowdoin Art Society, a student group of artists and art appreciators, opened its annual show in Ladd House Thursday night, the first night of family weekend. The event was sponsored by Student Activities, Residential Life, Ladd House, and the Kurtz Fund.
This year’s exhibit focused on polarization, both its affect on politics and on identities, and included about 150 works by 50 students from all class years. About 200 people attended the show, according to June Lei ’18, who curated the show with Julian Ehrlich ’17 and Hugo Hentoff ’19.
The Bowdoin Art Society’s mission, according to its organizational webpage, is to promote the vibrancy of the arts at Bowdoin; to foster and establish an arts community here; and to both challenge the parameters of the arts and make art at Bowdoin accessible to the entire community.
Besides it annual fall show, the Art Society also publishes the Journal of Art, an online journal for undergraduate papers.
