The Museum is delighted to welcome five new student employees to the team this fall. The five students’ contributions to collection research, exhibition development, educational outreach, and communications are integral to the Museum’s success and we look forward to hearing their ideas, input, and perspectives throughout the year.
The two student assistants to the curatorial team this semester are June Lei ’18 and Will Schweller ’17. June Lei is an active member of the arts community on the Bowdoin campus and serves as the co-director of the Bowdoin Art Society. An Art History and English double major, June will assist co-director Anne Goodyear and the staff at the Museum in a number of curatorial projects throughout the semester.
Will Schweller is returning to the Museum as a student assistant after his summer working as an education assistant. Will will work with curator Joachim Homann in preparing for Why Draw? 500 Years of Drawings and Watercolors at Bowdoin College, which will be on view from May 4 to September 3, 2017. An Art History major and an Education Studies minor, Will has been a valuable member of the Why Draw? curatorial team, and we are pleased to be able to offer him the opportunity to further contribute to the exhibition’s content.
The two education assistants, Blanche Froelich ’19 and Eliza Graumlich ’17, will be working directly with curatorial assistant Honor Wilkinson, to expand educational outreach to Maine schools, produce educational resources for the Museum’s exhibitions, conduct research on the permanent collection, and lead tours and Family Saturday programs. Blanche is an Anthropology and Visual Art double major who is particularly interested in the community impact of museums. Eliza is a Latin American Studies and Hispanic Studies double major and an Education Studies minor with an interest in object-based learning and teaching. Blanche and Eliza have experience teaching a range of different audiences and will be wonderful representatives of the Museum to welcome visitors of all ages.
The communications assistant, who will be working with the Museum’s assistant director of museum communications Suzanne Bergeron, is Emma Hamilton ’17, an Art History and Visual Arts double major with a minor in Government. Emma has been actively involved with the Museum throughout her Bowdoin career as a student docent and as a student curator for exhibitions organized by professors Matt Klingle (History) and Dana Byrd (art history). Emma will spend the academic year assisting with electronic and print communications, publicizing Museum events and programs, and posting on social media.
The staff is excited to work with these five enthusiastic students.
