The Maine State Society of Washington, D.C. Foundation has awarded scholarships to three current students. The society has been awarding scholarships since 1990, which go to Maine students attending college in Maine.
Kristin K. Bishop ’18, a government and legal studies major from Waterville, was the foundation’s top recipient.
Bishop has served as an intern with Sen. Susan Collins, is one of 30 people in the nation on the State Farm Insurance Company National Youth Advisory Board, and designed her own local government internship program for the Town of Madison.
“I would give back to the State of Maine by using my education and passion for civic affairs to earn a job that will allow me to be a voice for the people of Maine that otherwise would not have one,” wrote Bishop in an essay submitted to the foundation.
Marisa O’Toole ’18 from Scarborough, who is also a government and legal studies major—and an education studies minor—was also awarded a scholarship, along with Sarah Wilson ’17 from Sedgwick, a neuroscience major.
