Student Faith Groups Celebrate Together at Gratitude Service

On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, it has become a tradition for students representing different faith groups to gather at the Bowdoin Chapel for an Interfaith Service of Gratitude and Thanksgiving.

This year, students from the Muslim Student Association, Bowdoin Quakers, Bowdoin Orthodox Association, Bowdoin Hillel, The Inklings and Catholic Student Union offered a prayer or reading. A few also shared their personal thoughts about gratitude.

In addition, Dhivya Singaram ’17 spoke about her family’s Hindu tradition. Bob Ives, director of religious and spiritual life, gave the welcome and introduction. Reza Jalali, who is University of Southern Maine’s multicultural student affairs coordinator, ended the service with a “blessing of departure.” Carissa Brown played the organ prelude and postlude. Student performers included solo pianist Chuying Luo ’16, the Bowdoin Longfellows and the Bowdoin Community Gospel Choir.
